2101 FOXHALL ROAD NW was built in 1929 by Duncan and
Marjorie Phillips after they turned their 21st Street NW home over to the
Phillips Collection. The 16-acre estate included a 17,000-square-foot Maryland
plantation-style house with 20 rooms, including a dining room that seated 30,
and a large servants’ wing. The 12-bedroom mansion was demolished in 1988 but
the land sat empty for years. It is now being developed as Phillips Park, a
neighborhood of multimillion- dollar homes.
